Today, the U.S. Supreme Court declined the Trump Administration's direct appeal to review the lower courts' decisions to temporarily keep DACA in place through their granting of a preliminary injunction. This decision eliminates the urgency to make a more permanent solution for the Dreamers (i.e., the March 5, 2018 deadline). Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York ordered a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking the upcoming recision of DACA. Yesterday, January 31, 2018, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that Syria's TPS designation would be extended for 18 months (i.e., until September 30, 2019). The U.S. government specifically considered the original reasons for granting Syria TPS- armed conflict and extraordinary and temporary conditions- and whether these conditions continue to exist in deciding to extend the TPS designation.
