Green Card Replacement

 

If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must replace your green card if:

  1. It is expired or will expire within six months 

  2. Your previous card was lost, stolen, mutilated, or destroyed 

  3. You received your card before your 14th birthday and you are now 14 (unless your card is valid until your 16th birthday) 

  4. You have been a commuter and now will take up actual residence in the United States 

  5. You were a permanent resident residing in the United States and you now will take up commuter status 

  6. Your status has been converted into permanent resident status (e.g., agricultural worker)

  7. You have a previous version of the alien registration card and now require the current Green Card 

  8. Your green card contains incorrect information  

  9. You legally changed your name or other biographic information on the green card 

  10. You never received the previous green card that USCIS issued 

 

If you are a conditional permanent resident, you can only file the Form I-90 under the following circumstance (you would need to file the I-751 to remove the conditions):

  1. Your previous card was lost, stolen, mutilated, or destroyed 

  2. Your card contains incorrect information 

  3. You legally changed your name or other biographic information on the card 

  4. You never received the previous card that USCIS issued

 

To replace your Green Card, you must file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Green Card either online or by mail. If your application is approved you will receive a new Green Card in the mail.
