Have You Entered the Free Green Card Lottery Yet?
The Diversity Visa Lottery for Fiscal Year 2025 (DV-2025) is open from Wednesday, October 4, 2023 12:00 PM EDT to Tuesday, November 7, 2023 12:00 PM EST. There is no entry fee and up to 55,000 diversity visas available.
There is only 1 entry per person during the entry period and you should enter as soon as possible to avoid any potential issues with the website due to high demand.
In order to be eligible for the DV lottery, you must have completed either:
(1) High school or its equivalent (12 years formal elementary and secondary education) or
(2) 2 years works experience within the past 5 years in an occupation that requires at least two years work experience (refer to https://www.onetonline.org/)
Those people born in the following countries are not eligible to enter the DV-2025 lottery with limited exceptions: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, The People’s Republic of China (including mainland and Hong Kong born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador,
Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Venezuela, and Vietnam. (Those people born in Macau SAR and Taiwan are still eligible for the DV-2025 lottery).
The limited exceptions where people born in the above listed countries can still enter the DV-2025 lottery are: (1) their spouse was not born in one of the above listed countries (you must list your spouse on your entry and you and your spouse must enter the U.S. at the same time) (2) neither of your parents were born in or were legal residents in your country of birth at the time of your birth
You may enter the DV-2025 lottery during the registration period here. You should carefully review the instructions here for which family members' information you must include on your entry.
Upon submitting the (electronic) DS-5501, print the confirmation screen containing your unique confirmation number for your records. You can check your entrant status here from May 4, 2024- September 30, 2025. If you are selected in the DV-2025 lottery, you will only have from October 1, 2024 until September 30, 2025 to apply for and obtain the immigrant visa or I-485 approval.
