Changes in the Medical Exam

Generally, the medical exam is required for the I-485, Application to Adjust Status. The Form I-693 for the medical exam is valid for 2 years from the date that the USCIS Civil Surgeon signs it. On December 9, 2021 USCIS temporarily "waived" the requirement that the I-693 be submitted within 60 days of the date of the USCIS Civil Surgeon's signature. This waiver of the 60 day requirement will last until September 30, 2022.

USCIS recently switched to the 9/13/21 edition of the Form I-693 for those applicants whose I-693 was signed by the USCIS Civil Surgeon on October 1, 2021 or later. This edition of the Form I-693 includes the COVID vaccine requirement.

While there is no USCIS filing fee for Form I-693, the USCIS Civil Surgeon's fee may vary from physician to physician. You can find a USCIS Civil Surgeon on the USCIS website here.

You can find further information regarding the Form I-693 on the USCIS website here.
